Gurgaon: To strengthen security arrangements and maintain law and order, police apprehended 309 people for allegedly consuming alcohol in public places during a drive conducted across the city on Tuesday night.The operation was carried out under the directions of police commissioner Sibash Kabiraj and DCP (west) Karan Goyal. Police teams conducted checks at parks, parking areas, roadside stretches and other public places where people were allegedly found drinking and disturbing public order.According to police, all 309 individuals were detained under Section 172(2) of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, which deals with preventive action to maintain public order.Police said the drive was aimed at curbing hooliganism and maintaining peace in public spaces. Officials added that similar action would continue against those found consuming alcohol in public places or engaging in activities that disrupt law and order.Meanwhile, police have also strengthened security arrangements ahead of the Eid al-Adha (Bakrid) festival across the city. Around 860 police personnel will be deployed under the supervision of all deputy commissioners of police, with security tightened at major prayer sites, mosques, sensitive areas and densely populated localities.
Police said PCR units, rider teams, patrolling units and special teams have been activated to prevent any untoward incident during the festival. “Authorities are also monitoring social media platforms, and legal action will be taken against anyone found spreading rumours or attempting to disturb communal harmony,” said police spokesperson Sandeep Tarun.Officials said coordination meetings were held with peace committee members and local representatives to ensure smooth conduct of the festival. Traffic diversions and additional police deployment have also been planned around major prayer sites to manage congestion during the Bakrid prayers.Surveillance will also be maintained at crowded markets, bus stands, railway stations and other public places, police said. Citizens have also been asked to immediately inform police about any suspicious activity or issues related to law and order.
