Xeldem panchayat member, husband booked for assault

QUEPEM: Quepem police booked Xeldem panchayat member Lourecinha Correia and her husband in connection with an incident on June 10 this year, when the former slapped Agnelo Luis Fernandes, a villager, after a gram sabha meeting, in the corridor of Xeldem panchayat hall.
An offence was registered under various sections of the IPC against the couple after the police received the final medical certificate from an ENT specialist at Hospicio, Margao.The report confirmed that the victim had suffered grievous injury to his ear, causing damage to his eardrum, Quepem PI Brutano Peixoto said.
Heated arguments were witnessed outside the panchayat hall between the panchayat member and Fernandes on June 10, after the issue of regularisation of the victim’s illegal structure was hotly debated during the gram sabha. The panchayat member had objected to the regularisation.
Fernandes and Correia both lodged complaints at Quepem police station against each other on the same day. Police registered both as non-cognisable offences.
