Valuer held for second time in gold loan scam

COLVA: The

Margao

town police on Monday arrested valuer Shanu Lotlikar in a case pertaining to gold loan fraud at the Navelim branch of Bank of India, which was reported on January 27.


Lotlikar was earlier arrested in a similar case and was subsequently granted bail.

According to the complaint lodged by the manager of the bank’s Navelim branch, Lotlikar certified fake gold ornaments made of yellow metal produced by 11 persons as genuine gold ornaments to avail of gold loans between May 2017 and July 2018. The bank was thus cheated to the tune of Rs 68 lakh.

Meanwhile, the Margao principal sessions court on Monday granted anticipatory bail to 11 more individuals involved in fake gold loan scam registered at various South

Goa police

stations. Bail was granted to Kalyani Pawar and Saroj Shetty in the Curchorem case; Shivani

Shivaji

and Anita Savoikar in the Margao case; Bhavana Karekar and Manoj Naik in the Utorda case and Rupali Naik, Sapana Naik, Viduth Vishwas, Shanti Chari and Apurva Karekar in the

Cuncolim

case.
