Quepem: History-sheeter Bryson Sebastiao Faria, 23, of Tilamoll, Quepem, was arrested on Friday for threatening to kill a police constable attached to Quepem police while on duty at Tilamol junction.
Police said that Faria has several cases registered against him at the Quepem police station, while several ‘chapter cases’ are pending against him before the sub-divisional magistrate, Quepem.
Constable Somnath Shelke in his complaint stated that Faria was riding a two-wheeler under the influence of alcohol and that at the nakabandi point at Tilamol junction he abused him and other police personnel present and obstructed them from discharging their duties. Faria also threatened them with dire consequences, Shelke stated in the complaint.
The complaint stated that Faria was in possession of two liquor bottles. It also stated that Faria was not wearing a mask and that he did not have a valid travel permit.
The chief minister had recently warned that strict action would be initiated against those obstructing or abusing police personnel on duty.
Quepem PI Santosh Dessai arrested the accused under several sections of the Indian Penal Code and the MV Act.
The accused was produced before the judicial magistrate first class at Quepem on Saturday. The accused has been lodged at Colvale jail after court granted five days remand.
