Special section to revisit Golden Peacock winners

Panaji: The 50th International Film Festival of India (Iffi) scheduled from November 20 to 28 in Panaji will retrace the festival’s golden journey in a Golden Peacock Retrospective section.
The special section will showcase Golden Peacock award-winning films of the past 49 editions of the festival. The section will showcase eight films from eight different countries and will open with Sri Lankan film ‘Gamperaliya’ directed by Lester James Peries.The film won the first Golden Peacock Award in 1965.
Other films in the programme include ‘At Five in the Afternoon’ by Iranian director Samira Makhmalbaf, Bengali film ‘Moner Manush’ by Goutam Ghose, Columbian film ‘Porfirio’ by Alejandro Landes, ‘The Bostonians’ by James Ivory, Chinese film ‘The King of Masks’ by Tian Ming Wu, Kazhak film ‘Tulpan’ by Sergei Dvortsevoy and Russian film ‘Leviathan’ directed by Andrey Zvyaginstev.
Fifteen films, representing 20 countries, have been selected from over 700 entries to compete for the Golden Peacock Award.
Besides the Marathi film ‘Mai Ghat: Crime No. 103/2005’ directed by Ananth Narayan Mahadevan and Malayalam film ‘Jallikattu’ directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery, other films in the competition section, competing for the Golden Peacock Award are Prema Tseden’s ‘Balloon’ (China), Ali Aydin’s ‘Chronology’ (Turkey), Andreas Horvath’s ‘Lillian’ (Austria), Wagner Moura’s ‘Marighella’ (Brazil) and Hans Petter Moland’s ‘Out Stealing Horses’, among others.
