Socorro residents ask elevated highway contractor to rein dust pollution

P

anaji:
On Wednesday, Socorro residents criticised the insufficient dust control measures along the site of construction of the six-lane elevated highway corridor at Porvorim. They said that not enough rounds are made by water tankers to sprinkle water to curb the dust near the houses caused by the construction work. They said that they have to sprinkle the water themselves throughout the day.

The residents spoke to the officials of the contractor Rajendra Singh Bhamboo Infra (RRSM), after a presentation of the ongoing work was held at the Socorro panchayat on a demand from the residents.

“We cannot even breath. We are falling sick frequently. There is fine dust coming inside the house. How much can we seal the house,” said resident Beena D’Cruz.

A major portion of the work is taking place through Socorro, while diversions due to the work have also been affected majorly through the village.
