Cybercrime superintendent of police (SP) Raju Raut Dessai said they conducted a raid at Sangolda on Wednesday and caught six people running IPL betting online.
Dessai said that during the raid, police attached six laptops, Rs 31,000 in cash, 50 ATM cards, several mule account kits, and cellphones together totalling Rs 10 lakh.
He said that the individuals arrested included Gediya Dilipbhai, Bhimraj Meena, Nilesh Hirani, Shani Chavada, Rokad Jaysukhbhai, and Prashant Trivedi, all hailing from West Bengal, Gujarat, and Rajasthan.
“The accused persons were caught accepting cricket bets of two betting apps online via multiple cellphones connected through WiFi, which are registered on different names and credentials, and transferring this betting money in multiple mule accounts operated by the accused persons, committing identity theft to indulge in gambling activities,” said Dessai.
A first information report (FIR) has been registered under various sections of the IT Act, BNS and the Goa Police Gambling Act.
