Sayed Abdul Majid resigns as Goa Swimming Association secretary

Panaji:

Sayed Abdul Majid

has resigned as the secretary of the

Goa Swimming Association

.

GSA president

Digambar Kamat

confirmed the development. When contacted about news that Abdul had tendered his resignation, Kamat said, "He must have submitted it. He informed me on the phone."

Abdul was under a lot of pressure following the arrest of swimming coach

Surajit Ganguly

for the alleged rape of a minor trainee. Ganguly was Goa’s state coach and brought to Goa by the association. He was training swimmers at the Peddem sports complex in Mapusa.

A few parents had also called for Abdul’s resignation. However, it is learnt that the GSA secretary has filed his nomination for the joint secretary's post at Goa Cricket Association. The GCA elections have been scheduled for September 22.

With Lodha Committee's strict rules calling for 'One Person One Post', Abdul had to choose between swimming and cricket.
