PANAJI: Education minister Atanasio Monserrate, on Wednesday ordered an inquiry into institutes of higher education functioning in Goa and not affiliated to Goa University.
At a meeting with senior education officials, Monserrate asked director of higher education Bhaskar Nayak to inquire into institutes and study centres functioning in Goa that claim affiliation to universities located outside the state.

He said that the inquiry should be completed before the next academic year begins, so that the directorate of higher education (DHE) can guide students on genuine institutes where they could seek admission.
Monserrate also asked Nayak to issue a notice in all newspapers published in the state before the next academic year warning parents to verify an institutes credentials before seeking admission for their wards.
The minister also said that institutes approved by the state government shall henceforth refuse admission to students who come from unrecognized institutes. He said this will help put the onus of verifying the credibility of a particular institute on parents.
Monserrate convened the meeting following a complaint to the DHE by an aggrieved parent stating that IIAS School of Management had not issued degree certificates to about 250 students who had passed out over two years ago.
