Porvorim’s best honoured at Sports Fest

Panaji: The Porvorim Women’s Sports Fest 2026 brought together women from across Salvador do Mundo, Socorro, and Penha de Franca in a spirited celebration of sports and unity.

Curated under Porvorim Rising by tourism minister Rohan A. Khaunte, the event witnessed participation from over 1,300 women across age groups, from 18-30 to 71 years and above. A wide range of competitions were held for the participants, who displayed remarkable enthusiasm, discipline, and sporting spirit.

Those women sportspersons who have brought laurels at the national level were felicitated. Among those who were felicitated include Ana Julieta M. Abraham (hammer throw), Sanjana Prabhugaonkar (swimming), Pooja Kalel, Sonam Mashelkar (cricket), Gilu Fernandes (football), Disha Mandrekar (hockey), Tanvi Dyaneshwar Naik (softball), Tanishka Ashok Chavan, Shrisha Jambula, Priti Babu Chavan (all boxing).

“The Porvorim Women’s Sports Fest was a wonderful expression of Nari Shakti, where women whether homemakers, entrepreneurs or professionals came forward and showcased their sporting talent with great energy,” said Khaunte. “The scale of participation across all age groups was truly encouraging and reflected a strong community spirit. It was inspiring to see women step forward with confidence, take part wholeheartedly, and be part of an initiative that brings people together while promoting fitness and active living.”
