Parcem local held in land fraud case

Panaji: Shyam Chandrakant Bagli, a resident of Parcem, was arrested by

Porvorim police

for allegedly cheating a person to the tune of Rs 2.5 crore on the pretext of selling land.

As per inspector Anant Gaonkar of Porvorim police station, a complaint was lodged by Alfred Fernandes and his wife Arlette Carvalho, a resident of Calangute, stating that they had paid over Rs 2.4 crore for buying land from Bagli.

Gaonkar said later it was revealed to the complainants that the accused had falsely represented himself as the land owner in Siolim through some papers and cheated them.

Police said that the transactions happened from 2019 to 2021. The property was shown to be situated in Siolim.
