Panaji’s max temperature rises 2°C above normal in 24 hrs
Panaji: Both maximum and minimum temperatures rose in Panaji over the last 24 hours, according to observations from the India Meteorological Department (IMD). On Tuesday, Panaji registered a maximum temperature of 34.4°C, which was 2°C above normal, up from 33.1°C recorded a day earlier, when the temperature was 0.7°C above normal. The minimum temperature in Panaji also rose to 25.1°C, which was 2.7°C above the seasonal average. On Monday, the capital recorded a minimum of 24.5°C, 2.1°C above normal. At Mormugao observatory, the maximum temperature increased to 32.6°C, about 0.8°C above normal, from 31.8°C the previous day, which was at the normal level. The minimum temperature rose to 24.8°C, registering 1.7°C above normal, higher than 24.4°C (1.3°C above normal) recorded on Monday.Relative humidity remained high at both locations. Panaji recorded 75% (12% above normal), slightly higher than 74% a day earlier. Mormugao recorded 89%, slightly lower than 90% on Monday but still 10% above normal.“The main reason for the substantial rise in both the maximum and minimum temperatures is the incoming solar radiation,” said M R Ramesh Kumar, meteorologist and retired scientist, National Institute of Oceanography, Goa. “Only the pre-monsoon showers can reduce the temperature in the coming days.”
