Over 11k responses received in Census 2027 self-enumeration
Panaji: Over 11,000 persons in Goa have carried out their Census 2027 self-enumeration using the online platform, in the first digital Census of the country. The self-enumeration period ends on April 15 in Goa, and up to 10am on April 14, 11,117 had carried out self-enumeration in the state.
After the end of the digital Census, the field enumeration by workers begins from April 16 in Goa.
Officials said that 11,000 is a good figure of self-enumeration, considering that this is the first time this option is available, besides issues like digital literacy, internet network coverage which may act as hindrances for users.
But 11,000 responses reflects the number of households as only one person per household can carry out the self-enumeration. This means that the population covered by these 11,000 responses is much higher.
In the very first self-enumeration and digital Census, a provision was made to allow citizens to use Konkani as well to submit their responses.
Director of Census operations, Cheshta Yadav, had said that there will be little reliance on self-enumeration as this is this first time the exercise is taking place. However, Goa received a satisfactory response to the provision the very first time.
From Thursday, 3,000 supervisors and enumerators will go to every household to carry out the Census physically. This field enumeration work will be on till May 15.
If households are unable to complete the self-enumeration, enumerators will complete data entry for the households concerned or do it from scratch for them if not attempted at all. Households that have carried out self-enumeration need to provide the number generated to the enumerator so that the data can be verified by field enumerators.
The first phase of the Census covers house-listing and housing data. Enumeration data sought includes details like housing condition and structural details of house, information of the head of household, household composition and ownership status of house, availability of basic amenities such as drinking water, sanitation and electricity, cooking facilities and fuel usage patterns, possession of assets including vehicles and access to internet, and vehicle ownership and communication access.
