Now, pay to park outside Sharada Mandir School
Panaji: Parking spaces outside Sharada Mandir School and Hotel Crescent at Miramar will be part of the fourth phase of the pay-parking rollout, which covers Miramar and St Inez.
The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) is including these two new locations to alleviate the persistent traffic congestion in the area. These areas have long experienced severe traffic jams, particularly outside the school during drop-off and pick-up times.
“These roads near Miramar beach are heavily congested during peak hours, with the stretch opposite Sharada Mandir School being especially problematic,” a CCP official said. “The introduction of paid parking in this zone is expected to reduce the gridlock caused by parents halting their vehicles mid-road for long durations.”
The two locations that have been added to the fourth phase of pay-parking have been listed as the “parking space near the Sulabh toilet opposite Sharada Mandir School” and the “parking space opposite Hotel Crescent, situated below the high mast light.”
These additions bring the total number of paid parking spots in the current phase to 10, following a prior notification which was issued by the North Goa collector that designated multiple other areas across Miramar and St Inez for the initiative.
The zones that were notified earlier include Miramar Circle, the stretch near the Sulabh toilet at Miramar Beach, areas near Maruti Temple, and a significant part of St Inez, including the roads from Caculo Island near Pharmacy College via St Inez Church to Thomas Garage, Mahatma Gandhi Road, Vasudev V Dempo Road, Dr Dada Vaidya Road, Dr Braganza Pereira Road, and Gama Pinto Road.
While these locations have been formally identified for paid parking spots, actual implementation is pending.
The CCP has proposed a fee structure under which two-wheelers will be charged Rs 4 for up to four hours, Rs 8 for twelve hours, and Rs 15 for a full day of parking. Four-wheelers will pay Rs 20 for the first hour and Rs 15 for each subsequent hour.
