PANAJI:

Goa Congress president Girish Chodankar

said that they have reached out to all parties — MGP, TMC, NCP and AAP — and that none of them or the independents want to align with BJP this time as they have not forgotten the treatment meted out to them the last time.

“We have spoken to all barring BJP. We have also reached out to

independent

candidates,” he said.

Ahead of counting on Thursday, Goa desk in-charge Dinesh Gundu Rao and the party’s election strategist P Chidambaram have been camping in Goa.

No sooner than the results are out, the legislative party will meet and a leader will be elected,

Chodankar

said. “Everybody knows how MGP and GFP were treated by BJP. Nobody wants to be with BJP,” the Congress party president said.

A party insider said that senior Congress functionaries are having talks with other parties after preliminary talks by local functionaries.

Obviously, they have made their price known, he said, adding that the “MGP wants chief ministership”.

Independent candidates, who have a chance of winning, have shown their inclination to be with Congress, he said.

Congress has a pre-poll alliance with GFP. Though the party held belated alliance talks with NCP and MGP, its efforts appeared half-hearted.

TMC gestures for a tie-up were publicly rejected by it. NCP which waited for Congress’ affirmation to fight the election together, frustrated by the delay, joined hands with Shiv Sena.

In a surprise move, MGP which also had pre-poll talks with Congress, entered into an alliance with TMC.
