Narvekar back in Ranji team

Panaji: Ganeshraj Narvekar has returned to the state Ranji Trophy team after not too long ago being expelled by the Goa Cricket Association for six years. Ironically, he returns for the match against a team he played his last match four years ago – Jharkhand.
The 22-year-old leg spinner -- son of former GCA president Dayanand Narvekar -- was accused of forging a birth certificate to play in junior level tournaments.Many felt the suspension was harsh and done to hurt his father who ruled the GCA for many years with an iron fist.
For Ganeshraj, though, the suspension hit him hard as it came just a year after he had made his senior debut. Ganeshraj was handpicked by the selection committee to represent the state Ranji Trophy team in 2011. He made his debut against Maharashtra at Porvorim on November 3, 2011 and picked up five wickets in the second innings when the visitors crumbled for 91 in 30.5 overs.
Narvekar played his last game the same year when he went wicketless against Jharkhand in a Ranji Trophy Plate League group B match in Jamshedpur.
A few months later, his father was spectacularly ousted by the GCA managing committee and soon enough young Narvekar was handed the suspension letter.
The harsh suspension was later reduced and Ganeshraj has now clawed his way back into the senior set-up after coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar selected him for Goa’s next Ranji Trophy clash against Jharkhand at Jamshedpur from October 30 to November 2.
