Mob gheraos Porvorim police station

PANAJI: A mob of around 50 people gheraoed the Porvorim police station on Saturday night, demanding that the accused who set a rickshaw on fire be handed over to them.
Police said accused Rama Naik alias Yusuf Sheikh, 58, a resident of Porvorim, set a rickshaw on fire in Porvorim on Saturday. Members of the mob claimed that the arson attack was unprovoked.Police said that Porvorim police personnel rushed to the site and arrested Naik.
By the time the accused was brought to the station, a mob gathered outside the police station. A police source said it took them around one hour to convince the public that the accused could not be handed over to them.
