Mario Menezes makes a splash with a thought-provoking drama
A great script, good light effects by Piety Sequeira, and melodious music by Dexter Furtado and his troupeall smartly dressed in their uniforms with 'Staves' emblazoned on themare the highlights of Mario Menezes' 41st tiatr 'To Porot Yetolo' (He will return), that will be next staged at Pai Tiatrist hall, Ravindra Bhavan, Margao on Tuesday, April 26, at 3.30pm.
The tiatr begins with a scene of two newly-wed couples, Mabel (Rosy Alvares) and Darryl (Franky), and Preston (Peter de Arambol) and Sasha (Semenca), dancing during their honeymoon as Tony de Ribandar sings the opening chorus. While Mabel and her husband, Darryl have films as their common hobby, Preston does not share the same likes as his wife, Sasha, who is immediately attracted to Darryl. Mabel intensely trusts her husband, Darryl, who flirts with Sasha and is in constant touch with her through WhatsApp as Sasha's husband, Preston, is away working in Canada.
Mario Menezes, who plays the role of Mabel's rich father, is displeased with her choice of her life partner as he does not trust his son-in-law, Darryl, who he catches red-handed romancing in the park with Sasha. While Mabel refuses to accept this fact because her father was opposed to her marriage, Darryl, too, denies his affair with Sasha. But Mabel eventually catches the duo red-handed and confronts her husband, who desperately tries to deny the illicit relationship. Later, however, he gives her an ultimatum to divorce him. Despite this, Mabel is adamant on saving her marriage, and refuses to separate from him.
Preston, meanwhile, makes a surprise trip home upon being informed of the affair between Sasha and Darryl. Will Sasha divorce Preston? Will Mabel's dream of her husband killing her to marry Sasha come true? Will Mabel agree to her father's request to divorce Darryl and marry someone else? All the answers lie in the second half of 'To Porot Yetolo'.
The tiatr abounds with comedy scenes enacted by popular humourists Joanna, Sally and Michael. The latter is particularly hilarious, specially while he imitates former tiatrists, H Britton, M Boyer and William de Curtorim.
While the quartet by Joanna, Michael, Tony de Ribandar and Peter de Arambol received encores, solos by Lawry Travasso on Blessed Mother Teresa; Rosy Alvares on Venerable Fr Agnelo; Peter de Arambol; Semenca and Joanna also impressed. Likewise, the trio by Mario Menezes, Tony de Ribandar and Franky, the duet sung by Semenca and Peter de Arambol, and the political satire song by Joanna and Michael delighted the audience.
