PANAJI: Seven months after being appointed Lokayukta for Goa, Justice B Sudershan Reddy resigned from the post. The state government has accepted the resignation and Reddy will be relieved on Friday. Chief minister
Manohar Parrikar said Reddy resigned citing personal reasons. “I have tried to convince him to withdraw his resignation but he was firm in his decision,” Parrikar said.
He added that the process of appointing a new Lokayuta will begin soon.
Social activist Aires Rodrigues had challenged Reddy’s appointment as Lokayukta in the high court of Bombay at Goa. The court had upheld the appointment. Rodrigues subsequently moved the Supreme Court challenging the high court order. The SC was due to hear the case next week.
India Against Corruption (IAC), Goa chapter, coordinator Valmiki Naik said they urged the chief minister to follow the Uttarakhand Lokayukta bill procedure while selecting a replacement for Reddy.
