Just 1/3rd of LPSI posts filled, most applicants fail to clear 100m cutoff
Panaji: Only 10 of the 30 advertised posts of lady police sub-inspector (LPSI) have been filled in the recruitment drive conducted by the Goa Staff Selection Commission, as only these candidates cleared all stages of the selection process. The commission has declared the final results for the recruitment of 187 police sub-inspectors (PSIs).
A senior police officer said most women candidates could not clear the physical test, particularly the 100m run, which had to be completed in 16 seconds. In 2021, state govt granted a one-time relaxation in the physical test for LPSI recruitment, allowing women to complete the run in 19 seconds.
The commission had advertised 187 PSI vacancies, including 157 posts for men and 30 for LPSIs. However, it did not receive enough eligible candidates for the LPSI posts and for PSI posts reserved under the economically weaker section (EWS).
A total of 463 candidates appeared for the second computer-based test, of whom 89 failed. Some candidates filed review petitions before the commission. After examining these petitions and relevant records, the commission declared the final results.
The commission received around 5,500 applications for the 187 posts. Of these, about 4,500 candidates appeared for the examination and 2,851 cleared the first test. Most applicants were graduates. Among those who qualified in the first test, 1,570 were men and 222 were women.
This recruitment drive was one of the largest undertaken by state govt for PSIs in recent years. The sanctioned strength of male PSIs is 514, while that of LPSIs is 100. Goa police currently face a staff shortage, with about 10% of posts lying vacant across various categories. Of the 10,782 posts sanctioned for Goa police, around 10,000 have been filled so far.
