Intensify minority outreach: BJP national president to Goa unit ahead of ’27 polls
Panaji: BJP national president Nitin Nabin on Friday directed the party’s Goa unit to reach out to minorities and persuade them to support the BJP in the 2027 assembly elections, citing the party’s success in minority-backed constituencies in Assam and the northeast.
Nabin asked the state unit to ensure that the BJP’s vote share touched 50% in the assembly polls, matching the support it received in the Lok Sabha elections. He said that one senior leader from Delhi would visit Goa every month to review political developments and help plan election strategy.

The directions were given during a core committee meeting at the BJP headquarters in Panaji, which lasted about 45 minutes and was attended by CM Pramod Sawant, BJP state president Damodar Naik and other senior leaders. Nabin, who is on a two-day visit to Goa, is visiting the state for the first time after taking over as BJP national president to assess the political situation ahead of the 2027 polls.
During the core committee discussions, some members expressed concern that minorities continued to have reservations about voting for the BJP, which they said was worrying for several MLAs. Others countered this view, cautioning against generalising and pointing to Assam and the northeast, where the BJP has won minority-dominated constituencies with minority support.
Addressing the members, Nabin said the party must actively approach minorities and seek their support. He noted that while the BJP secured about 50% of the votes in the Lok Sabha elections in Goa, its vote share dropped to around 32% in the assembly elections. He said efforts should be made to reconnect with voters who supported the party in the parliamentary polls and ensure their continued backing in the assembly elections.
On differences between old and new party karyakartas, Nabin stressed that everyone must work together and that there should be no distinction between them.
Nabin also addressed members of the BJP South Goa district committee at the party’s district office in Margao, where he reviewed organisational work and outlined priorities for the coming months. According to party leaders, Nabin stressed that coordinated effort across mandals, booths and district-level teams would be key to strengthening the party’s base ahead of the polls.
Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, speaking to reporters after the meeting, said, “Nabin gave a clear message to all party functionaries to work unitedly for the success of the party in the 2027 assembly polls.”
