Indian Coast guard bolsters eastern coast with vessel built at Goa Shipyard Ltd
Panaji: To bolster maritime patrolling along the eastern coast, the Indian Coast Guard inducted the ICGS Amulya into its fleet on Friday at Goa shipyard. ICGS Amulya is the third vessel in the new-generation Adamya-class Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV).
The 51-metre vessel, which is powered by two 3000 kW advanced diesel engines, was commissioned by defence joint secretary Amitabh Prasad at Vasco. “Our maritime environment today is both dynamic and complex. To counter these challenges effectively, Indian Coast Guard continues to modernise its fleet, enhance its surveillance capabilities, and strengthen operational readiness,” Prasad said. “Equipped with advanced state-of-the-art systems and more than 60% indigenous content, Amulya represents not only our technological advancement but also the strengthening of India's maritime might and industrial base.”
Prasad said that indigenisation of propulsion systems, weapon systems, and shipbuilding technology contributes to economic growth and generates employment.
ICGS Amulya is capable of sailing at a top speed of 27 knots and has an operational endurance of 1500 nautical miles, enabling extended missions in India's maritime zones. The ship is armed with a 30mm CRN-91 gun and two 12.7mm stabilised remote-controlled guns, supported by advanced target acquisition and fire-control systems.
The vessel will be based at Paradip, Odisha, operating under the administrative and operational control of the commander, ICG’s North East region through the commander, coast guard District Headquarters No. 7.
Goa Shipyard’s director for operation rear admiral Nelson D’Souza (retd) said that the shipyard has delivered over 400 platforms to the Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard, and friendly foreign nations to date.
