GSPCB suspends staff over Arpora inferno

Panaji: The Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) on Tuesday suspended two of its staff — scientific assistant Chaitanya Salgaonkar, and junior environmental engineer Vijay Harichandra Kansekar — for not conducting a proper inspection at Birch by Romeo Lane in Arpora.

Meanwhile, chief minister Pramod Sawant held a meeting with heads of departments after the magisterial report was submitted to govt. Based on the report, Sawant directed heads of departments to issue showcause notices to the persons concerned with issuing permissions to the nightclub.




Notices will be issued to those concerned in the directorate of food and drugs administration, directorate of panchayats, and directorate of fire and emergency services, among others.

The report gave 60 recommendations to govt, including actions and steps that need to be put in place to prevent fire incidents in the future.
