PANAJI: This perhaps is the best year for Goan filmmakers at the International film festival of India (Iffi). After Tuesday's screening of `Paltadacho Munis', on Wednesday `Focus on rivers' was shown in the short film category and coming up later during the festival is `Peace of mind guaranteed', another short film by a Goan team that will be vying for the Vasudha Award. "The film is on environment. It simply says that any development that is not planned can destroy mankind. It says that we live in harmony with nature and we must bring back that tranquillity," says Rajeev Shinde, director of the film. Just above four and a half minutes, the film is a combination of live action and animation. "There is subtle humour which will make the audience laugh, at the same time they will realize that they are laughing at themselves. I want that those four and half minutes they spend watching the film will give them something to take back," says Shinde. The film has Rajesh Pednekar reacting to nature and environmental problems that are presented through animation. "The film was shot in Panaji. The shooting was done in one day. It was a rushed job and we entered it for the competition just five minutes before the deadline," says Pednekar. Shinde, who teaches filmmaking at Goa College of Art, has directed a number of short films that are based on social causes. "For me it is a passion and I take up social issues," says Shinde. Currently he has a number of scripts in hand, but isn't sure which to take up. His earlier films includes `Dekhni Durai', a feature film in Konkani. Shinde and Pednekar have been working as a team for a long time; starting in theatre and winning awards not just in Goa, but in Mumbai too for their stage productions. "Cricket and theatre came together for me in the 1980s," says Pednekar who played Ranji cricket for Goa, but now is in Mumbai and in theatre. Pednekar has also acted in Shinde's Konkani film `Dekhni Durai' earlier and the duo had won an award at Iffi 2007 in the 25 frames category, a short film making competition. Besides `Peace of mind guaranteed', there are 11 other films in the Chota Cinema section that have been made by Shinde's students.
