Goa University begins admission process for PhD seats
Panaji: Goa University has begun the process of admissions to PhD programmes for 2025-26 offered on its campus and at affiliated institutes, including the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR) and the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO). Applications will be accepted online till April 21.
Interviews will be conducted from April 27 to May 4, followed by declaration of candidates on May 5, the GU notification has stated.
Part-time PhD programmes will also be permitted, provided certain conditions are fulfilled, such as a letter furnished by an employer if a student is working.
“Every candidate shall have to reside within the territorial jurisdiction of the GU during the first three years of the period of research leading to the PhD degree,” the notification has stated.
Admission to the PhD programmes for the April 2026 session are open to candidates who qualify for the fellowship/scholarship in UGC-NET/UGC-CSIR NET/GATE/CEED and similar national-level tests, or any other test notified by the University Grants Commission (UGC) from time to time. They will be eligible for admission to the PhD programme based on an interview. Candidates not falling under this category should have qualified NET/SET lectureship, but admission will be based on an interview. There shall be 70% weightage for the score at the NET/SET and 30% for the interview.
All other students seeking admission to the PhD seats should have answered the Goa University PhD Entrance Test (PET). Those qualifying the test shall be eligible to attend the interview. Here too, there shall be 70% weightage for the score at entrance test and 30% weightage for the interview.
Candidates who have completed MPhil degree by distance mode are not eligible, the GU has said.
