Goa: Human rights commission to inspect Ribandar roads on Monday

PANAJI: The

Goa human rights commission

will conduct an inspection of the roads in Ribandar on Monday. The commission’s inspection team that was scheduled to inspect the roads on Thursday will now visit Ribandar on July 1.

The commission early this week directed its secretary and police inspector of the investigation team headed by

Manoj Mardolkar

to inspect the roads at Ribandar and submit a report within one week.

“In my opinion, it would be proper to direct the officials of this commission to inspect the site,” A D Salkar, a member of the commission, stated on Monday.

The complainant, Aires Rodrigues, asked for an official from the commission to be deputed to inspect the roads at Ribandar to ascertain the ground reality.

Rodrigues stated that the reports submitted to the commission by the chief secretary, North Goa collector and managing director of Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd - on restoration of the roads after digging - are “far from the ground reality at Ribandar”.

“Had there been proper coordination between Smart City and the

PWD

and BSNL, the inconvenience caused to the residents of Ribandar who were left without water supply and telephone service could have been avoided,” Rodrigues submitted to the commission.

He told the commission that the restoration of the dug-up roads has not been done properly and will be washed away with the first showers bringing further misery to local residents and commuting public.

Rodrigues last month filed a complaint stating that the roads in Ribandar were not restored to its original condition in rank violation of the conditions imposed by the North Goa collector in its permission for digging roads.
