DHI to conduct Mhadei basin study for govt

DHI (India) Water and Environment Private Limited will conduct a detailed study on the Mhadei basin on a nomination basis to protect the interests of the state in the Mhadei water disputes tribunal. The government will spend Rs1.34 crore on the study.

Panaji: DHI (India) Water and Environment Private Limited will conduct a detailed study on the Mhadei basin on a nomination basis to protect the interests of the state in the Mhadei water disputes tribunal. The government will spend Rs1.34 crore on the study.
The report would be submitted to the Mhadei tribunal in the ongoing dispute between Goa and Karnataka over diverting of water from the Mhadei basin
The agency will conduct a bio-diversity study on the Mhadei river to ascertain endemic species and aquatic ecology.

The agency will also conduct a study on the rainfall run-off and river modeling by the MIKE 11 model and estuarine modeling of Mandovi and Zauri estuaries for 2D and 3D flows. The agency will also conduct an estuarine survey of the estuarine of Mandovi and Zauri rivers.
Chief minister Manohar Parrikar said that the study would be conducted before the next hearing of the tribunal which is likely to come up in December. He also said that the study will continue even after the hearing. tnn
