Cop charged with raping former 'lover'

MARGAO: The Quepem police on Wednesday booked a constable attached to the state police control room, Rama Dessai, a resident of Quepem, on charges of raping a woman.
Quepem PI Santosh Dessai said that the victim lodged a complaint with the Quepem police on Wednesday stating that Dessai and she were in love with each other for the last two years, and that the cop had promised to marry her.
But as Dessai recently married another woman, the victim, in her complaint, said that she was sexually abused and raped by the constable on the false promise of marriage.
Acting on the complaint, the Quepem police have booked an offence against Dessai under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code and further investigations are underway.
Dessai was manning the police 'Robert' van at the Quepem police station, TOI has reliably learnt.
