CJI, SC judges to attend mediation conference in Goa
Panaji: Chief Justice of India, Justice Surya Kant, along with seven other SC judges, will participate in a National Conference and Symposium on “Mediation: How far significant in the present-day context.” This event is organised by the Bar Council of India (BCI) and BCI Trust at the India International University of Legal Education and Research (IIULER), Goa, on Dec 26 and 27.
Rajya Sabha MP and chairman of the Bar Council of India and BCI Trust, Manan Kumar Mishra, will participate in the two-day conference.
Over 30 judges from various HCs and eminent legal luminaries will attend the event. The CJI will lead a mediation awareness walk to promote mediation as a people-centric and efficient dispute resolution mechanism.
The symposium will feature technical sessions, plenary discussions, policy roundtables, and specialised mediation training programmes, focusing on strengthening mediation as an effective mechanism for dispute resolution.
Other SC judges who have confirmed their participation include Justices J K Maheshwari, B V Nagarathna, P S Narasimha (also Chancellor of IIULER), P K Mishra, Ujjawal Bhuyan, N Kotiswar Singh, and V M Pancholi. The key topics slated for deliberation during the conference include integrating mediation into everyday court practice, international mediation practices, the Mediation Act 2023, and the role of culture, society, behaviour, and ground realities in effective mediation.
