Candolim flat gutted by fire, major loss but none injured

Panaji: A fire on Saturday caused significant damage to a second-floor flat of a building at Orda, Candolim. The fire services team responded to a call at 9.30am. Firefighters encountered difficulty in accessing the location due to vehicles parked along the narrow approach road.

The flat’s occupants, two adults and two children, were away when the accident occurred. Local residents had the presence of mind to remove gas cylinders from the premises before the fire brigade arrived.

The blaze destroyed household items including electronic appliances, furniture, and personal belongings.

The fire department confirmed that no injuries were reported. Firefighters contained the fire and prevented it from spreading to the neighbouring flats in the building.

In a separate case on the same day, the fire services responded to reports of a short circuit at Goa Nursing College library at Bambolim. The situation had been resolved when the firefighters arrived.
