Canacona farmers demand urgent bandhara repairs

Canacona: Farmers of Cotigao, Dabel, Monem and nearby areas have demanded the PWD or department concerned to fix bandharas with plates to ensure sufficient water for their crops.

Farmer Prasad Velip has urged authorities to address farmers’ issues by fixing plates to ensure adequate water is collected for the crops. He told TOI that the plates were usually fixed before Nov 10, but as of Nov 26, the water flow downstream remains unchecked. He warned that delays in repairs will affect cultivated crops, causing losses for farmers.

Canacona water resource department assistant engineer Dhananjay Narvekar said they were instructed to fix the bandharas with plates within 15 days but had been delayed due to rain in the first week of Nov.
