CALANGUTE: An ordinary gram sabha meeting of the Calangute panchayat held on Sunday had to be curtailed as no development proposals could be discussed due to the model code of conduct for the recently concluded Lok Sabha and assembly byelections still being in force.
With barely 20 villagers present, the meeting started with the reading and approval of the minutes of the previous gram sabha, followed by a presentation of the statement of accounts for the 2018-19 financial year.
Calangute sarpanch Shawn Martin informed the members that an extra-ordinary gram sabha will be conducted on June 2 where a ban on sale and use of plastic bags in Calangute will be discussed. This move comes on the heels of directions issued by the directorate of panchayats.
The gram sabha concluded after this.
Sunday’s gram sabha meet of the Arpora-Nagoa panchayat similarly concluded early due of the model code of conduct.
