BCCI promises funds to state associations for stadiums

MARGAO: Board of Control for Cricket in India may not allot another international cricket match to Goa. BCCI had earlier set a deadline of September 2009 for state associations to obtain ownership of existing venues or build a stadium, but are now determined to implement the decision starting next year.
Since hosting an ODI between Australia and Sri Lanka the same year it was built in 1989, Fatorda has hosted nine ODIs, three of which have got washed out.Fans have also cheered lustily as explosive Sri Lanka wicketkeeper Romesh Kaluwitharana made his international debut, Sachin Tendulkar picked his 100th wicket and VVS Laxman got his first ODI century.
BCCI has promised ` 50 crore to state associations who have identified land for a stadium. GCA is awaiting environmental clearances for its stadium in Tivim, and the state-of-the-art project is expected to see the light of the day no sooner than 2013. Until then, cricket enthusiasts in Goa will have to wait in hope.
