Artiste criticises KA renovation after technical glitch disrupts Marathi play
Panaji: A technical glitch disrupted a Marathi play at the Kala Academy recently, which unfolded during a live performance. Sharad Ponshke, an artist, expressed his dismay at the state of the renovated Kala Academy, which was refurbished with a mighty budget allocation of almost Rs 50 crore.
“Kala Academy was renovated with a high budget, yet there are neither proper facilities nor proper management. I feel horribly disappointed due to the experience,” said Ponshke.
Ponshke recounted the moment during the play when the onstage lights began to flicker. “The flickering lights created an embarrassing situation on stage, yet we tried to proceed despite the challenges. However, we had to halt after the problem persisted.”
The technical setbacks, however, didn’t end there. “There are air-conditioning machines installed, but they don’t work. We couldn’t even use the ACs in the makeup room, which made it uncomfortable for the cast and crew,” he said.
“At least we didn’t face problems with the sound system because we brought in our equipment, such as speakers and mikes,” he added.
The artist also highlighted the contrast between the previous Kala Academy and its newly renovated counterpart. “There is a huge difference between the old Kala Academy and the ‘newly renovated’ one. It’s disheartening to see such a lack of attention to detail in the renovation. The art and culture minister should have paid more attention to the renovation’s quality. People come to see these performances after paying money, and they deserve better than this.”
Ponshke also mentioned his personal connection with CM Pramod Sawant. He revealed that he raised the issue with the CM, hoping a solution would soon be found to remedy the situation.
“It’s a shame that Goa, known for producing so many renowned artists, is facing such an embarrassment. We hope that the authorities take this seriously and improve the situation for future performances,” Ponshke added.
