PANAJI: The All Goa Ex-Servicemen Welfare Association will carry out career guidance sessions for youth in schools and colleges in the interiors of Goa. The aim is to apprise them of career opportunities available in the

defence

forces.

“We are a vibrant association of highly qualified individuals who have served the country in different branches and ranks. Parents feel their kids will be in danger if they join the Army, but we want to educate them about the opportunities available by telling them inspirational stories about the Kargil War and other such occurrences,” said the association’s vice-president Bhalchandra Amonkar.

The necessary qualification to join the

Armed Forces

, said ex-Navy officer Anant Joshi, is a Class XII passing certificate from any stream. “The science stream of course opens up wider opportunities, but it is not the only requirement. Even graduates from the arts stream can apply to join the Army,” Joshi said.

Volunteers have already conducted sessions in 19 schools and 12 colleges across Goa, speaking to students about how to choose which stream to follow from Class X onwards.
