Accused in sextortion case gets bail

Panaji: The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) at Mapusa on Thursday granted bail to 26-year-old Odisha native Kukesh Rauta, who was allegedly accused of extorting money from a sitting MLA in connection with an alleged sextortion case.

The conditions of bail include that the accused must execute a personal bond of Rs 20,000, along with two local sureties of a similar amount each. The accused will not tamper with the evidence and will not intimidate or threaten the prosecution witnesses or the complainant. The accused will not abscond, not interfere with the investigation, and will cooperate with the investigating officer or court in the investigation of the alleged offence.

The accused must remain present before the court police as and when required and shall not commit an offence of a similar nature while he is released on bail. The accused will not leave the country without the permission of the court.
