QUEPEM: A multi-axle truck allegedly loaded with 38 tonnes of manganese ore and abandoned by its driver at Ambaulim more than a month back has been finally shifted to Quepem police station.
A JMFC court had directed the assistant director of transport, Quepem, to keep the overloaded truck near the Quepem police station with the help of traffic cell and Quepem police.
The personnel of traffic cell had been keeping a close watch on the vehicle for over a month. The vehicle was an obstruction to traffic on the road.
The driver had fled from the scene after the traffic cell personnel intercepted the truck bearing registration No KA-22 C 1997 on April 4, 2015 while it was on its way to unload the consignment at the Cuncolim industrial estate.
During random checking, the police found that the vehicle was carrying more than 18 tones, which is beyond the permissible limit.
The transport department in Quepem had filed the chargesheet against the truck owner before JMFC court at Quepem. During the arguments, the traffic cell had informed the court that only the owner had been made a party in the chargesheet and not the driver and consigner.
Sources said that the truck was not attached first before filing the chargesheet and it was also not weighed to check the exact quantum of overload.
Raghavendra Swami, owner of the truck filed another application before JMFC court seeking release of the truck.
A legal tangle between various authorities after it was intercepted by authorities stalled its movement.
