8th Goa state film festival to commence from Aug 5

PANAJI: Stating that the upcoming Goa state film festival from August 5 will be the country’s first film festival where shortlisted movies will be screened for the public with repeat shows, vice-chairman of Kala Academy and member of the executive council of entertainment society of Goa (ESG), Sushant Khedekar said that the rise in number of entries was an indicator of the growing popularity of the awards.

“In the last edition, we received just four to five entries, but the eighth edition has received 12 films, of which nine are Konkani, two are Marathi and one short film. A four-member jury comprising Sameer Arya, Anil Gandhi, Vijay Jain and Akshay Indikar will be judging the Marathi and Konkani films, while Sugandha Lonikar, Sanjay Mone and Shrikant Karlekar will be judging the entires in the short film category,” Khedekar said.

Organized in association with the department of information and publicity, the biennial event will be held at the Kala Academy, INOX and Maquinez Palace from August 5 to 7. The best feature film in Konkani and Marathi category will be awarded prize money of Rs 5 lakh with the runners up entry getting Rs 3 lakh.
