276 students score more than 90% in Class X exam, up from last year
Panaji: Data released by the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education on Tuesday shows a trend of more students scoring higher marks at the Class X public exams. The figures indicate that at the 2026 Class X exams, as many as 276 students scored over 90%.
Another 1,848 children had scores between 80% to 90%, and over 3,500 have performed in the 70 to 80% bracket. Compare this to 2024, where the number of those scoring in the range of 75-100% was 3,809 students. In 2026, the number of students in this range of score is over 5,500.
The Class X results for the year were declared on Sunday. After the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, this was the first batch to clear Class X in 2026. Though the Class X pass percentage this year showed a slight dip at 94.5%, over 2025’s 95.3%, it is to be noted that this is the first batch which studied 10 subjects.
“Increasingly, more schools are putting in added efforts for students by conducting remedial classes. They start teaching the batch from April in the summer vacations and ensure that the portion is completed by Dec, so that students have more time for revision before the Board exams,” said Goa Board chairperson Bhagirath Shetye.
After the introduction of the NEP, students study six regular subjects and four skill-based subjects like physical education, art, etc. While students are evaluated for the six regular subjects by the Goa Board, the assessment for the four skill-based subjects is carried out by schools, except for physical education and national skills qualification framework subjects.
Considering that this batch of students studied additional subjects this year for Class X, it is significant that the number of high scorers has increased over previous years.
In 2025, a majority of 8,921 students of those who appeared for the Goa Board Class X exam scored between 60% and 74%. This year, 4,643 students scored between 60% to 70% and the larger chunk of students scored higher than 70%.
Of the 20,618 students who appeared for the Class X exam this year, only 3,860 scored between 40 to 50% and the number of those who scored below 40% was just 847.
