146 get learner’s licences in transport department’s one-stop initiative
Panaji: A series of learner’s licence drives conducted across Tiswadi under the Swayampurna Goem Programme resulted in the issuance of 146 learner’s licences to applicants who attended the initiative by the office of the assistant director of transport (North), Panaji. The initiative, aimed at delivering licensing and allied transport services at the doorstep of citizens, covered 15 panchayats and five municipal ward clusters under the Corporation of the City of Panaji.
“This was done under the Sarkar Tumchya Dari (govt at your doorstep) initiative to decentralise transport services and reduce the need for citizens to visit licensing offices. The initiative is a one-stop solution wherein RTO officials set up stalls in one location, saving citizens from visiting multiple offices,” a transport official said.
Most centres witnessed participation from applicants seeking other transport-related services.
The turnout varied widely from village to village, with the highest turnout recorded at the Azossim-Mandur panchayat, where 32 applicants attended the camp and 31 learner’s licences were issued, along with several other transport-related services. Other well-attended camps included Sao Matias Malar panchayat with 19 applicants, Cumbharjua village panchayat with 16 applicants, and Chorao panchayat, where 20 applicants were issued learner’s licences. Santa Cruz and Neura panchayats each recorded nine applicants, all of whom were issued learner’s licences.
“Across most locations, the number of learner’s licences issued closely matched the number of applicants present, indicating a high success rate for the drive,” a transport official said.
Services such as document verification and other licensing-related assistance were also provided at select panchayats. At municipal level, camps conducted across wards in Panaji catered to 12 applicants, who were issued learner’s licences.
