Panaji: A tragic incident occurred in Anjuna on Monday, resulting in the loss of a young woman's life.
The victim, T Poojitha, a 25-year-old resident of Andra Pradesh, was accidentally run over by a tourist from Hyderabad while riding a four-wheeler.
The Anjuna Police Station received information about the accident near Starco junction and registered a case. During the investigation, it was revealed that the rider of a two-wheeler, Shivam Uplaksh from Haryana, lost control and hit a compound wall.
As a result, both the rider and the pillion rider, T Poojitha, fell. However, the situation took a turn for the worse when a car driver named Sameen Bawani from Hyderabad drove her vehicle recklessly and negligently.
“Without exercising proper care and caution, Bawani ran over the pillion rider and dragged her for a considerable distance towards Pooja Restaurant. As a result, T Poojitha sustained serious injuries and later succumbed to them at a private hospital in Anjuna,” Anjuna PI Prashal Dessai said.
“The driver of the car has been arrested and charged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. The body of the victim has been preserved at the Goa Medical College and hospital at Bambolim, and a postmortem examination will be conducted upon the arrival of the family,” Dessai said.
