With over 550 people reported with disabilities related to sight and hearing each amid the state's ST population, these disabilities were the most common among the tribal in Goa.

PANAJI: The incidence of disabilities is high among Goa's scheduled tribe population, with 10% of the over 33,000 disabled reported in the state found to be tribal, as per the latest data released by the registrar general and census commissioner of India of the Census 2011.
The scheduled tribe population comprises only 0.04% of Goa's total population.

With over 550 people reported with disabilities related to sight and hearing each amid the state's ST population, these disabilities were the most common among the tribal in Goa.
The highest number of STs with disabilities were found in the age group of 10 to 69 years. The proportion of disabilities reported in the age group of 10 to 20 among the ST population was much higher than that reported in Goa's overall population.
Like the all Goa figures, the incidence of disabilities related to movement appeared to be the highest and were more common among men among tribal with nearly 200 more males than women reported with the disability in movement. Hearing defects were seen to be more common among women in the ST population.
Around 313 were affected by multiple disabilities among Goa's tribal population and 156 have been reported to have mental retardation.
Of the 182 tribal reported to be suffering from a mental illness, 102 were male and 81 female.
Far fewer cases of disability were reported among Goa's scheduled caste population, which is much larger than Goa's tribal population. Only 675 were reported with a disability among the state's SC population.
