1.4 lakh names deleted from Goa electoral rolls after SIR
Panaji: A total of 1,39,634 names were deleted from Goa’s electoral rolls, and 12,166 names were added during the special intensive revision exercise of the Election Commission.
These deletions included 1,00,042 absent, shifted, dead and duplicate (ASDD) persons, as well as 39,592 unmapped electors whose names, or whose parents’ names, could not be mapped in the 2002 rolls of the last SIR.
The new electoral roll published on Saturday now has a total of 10,57,566 electors, as against 11,85,034 electors in the earlier roll prior to the SIR exercise. Of these, 51.6% are female and 48.4% are male, and a very small percentage are third-gender electors: 0.0009% (9 persons).
Vasco stood out as the constituency with the highest deletions, in five figures, at 11,000+, followed closely by Cortalim and Dabolim with over 9,000 and 5,000 deletions, respectively. These were attributed to a large migrant and floating population, CEO Sanjay Goel said.
Other constituencies with 4,000-odd names deleted were Taleigao, St Cruz, Porvorim, Mormugao, Margao, Fatorda, Mapusa, and Saligao. Sanguem and Mandrem had the fewest deletions of names in their rolls, in three digits.
Explaining the reasons for deletions, Goel said 1,00,042 voters’ names were deleted as they fell under the category of ASDD voters. The rest of the deletions were because they were unmapped, he said.
“Their enumeration forms were received, but neither they nor their parents were mapped in the 2002 roll. They were issued notices and given an opportunity to show documents, but they could not produce any of the standard list of documents,” Goel said.
Anybody aggrieved with the final roll can appeal to the district magistrate/collector, within 15 days, and thereafter within 30 days to the CEO for Goa. People can file Form 6 for inclusion of their name with supporting documents and submit these to electoral officers, he said.
Goel said this is the final roll, so elections notified after this roll will have to rely on this roll. The final rolls comprise 14,484 new voters in the age group 18-19 years, 8,596 persons with disabilities (PwDs), and 10,338 elderly voters aged 85 and above.
