Ghaziabad: A woman (53) riding pillion with her husband on a bike was crushed to death under the wheels of a UP Roadways bus that hit the two-wheeler from behind in Madhuban Bapudham. The husband is battling grievous injuries in hospital.
Police said the couple were on their way to a relative’s place in Raj Nagar Extension when the accident happened.
The woman was identified as Saroj Tyagi, a resident of Muradnagar. Her husband,
Sanjeev Tyagi (55), was trying to negotiate a pothole on the road when the bus hit the bike around 2pm. “A police team was rushed to the spot after getting a call from a passerby. The woman’s body was still under the wheels of the bus when they reached. The husband was flung in the air under the impact of the accident and suffered injuries to the legs and shoulder,” said Munnesh Kumar, the SHO of Madhuban Bapudham police station.
The couple were rushed to a nearby hospital. Saroj was declared dead on arrival while
Sanjeev was admitted.
The road on which the couple were travelling was potholed. “Sanjeev, who was negotiating the craters, was moving slowly. The driver of the Roadways bus could not slam the brakes in time and hit the two-wheeler from behind,” the SHO said.
The driver and helper fled after the accident, leaving the vehicle behind. “We have seized the vehicle and contacted the bus depot to get details of the driver,” Kumar said.
