GHAZIABAD: A 20-year-old law student died under mysterious circumstances after he fell into a pond in Raispur village under the jurisdiction of Madhuban Bapudham area on Monday. Police said they suspect it is a suicide case but are investigating all angles.
The deceased, Shashank Kumar, is a resident of Madhuban Bapudham. Shyamsunder, his father, is a constable with CBI Ghaziabad.
ACP Abhishek Srivastava said that at 5 pm, cops got information that a youth was drowning in the pond. A police team reached the site, and an NDRF team also turned up. Two divers from the NDRF took him out at 5.45 pm.
“Police took the victim to a private hospital. But at 7.30 pm, doctors declared him dead during treatment. Shashank was in the pond for over 30 minutes--the reason he died," Srivastava said.
A cop said at 4 pm, the deceased's mother went to buy vegetables. At 5 pm, when she returned home, she came to know from her neighbours that her son was drowning in a pond. She ran to the site and also informed her husband. "We don't know how the incident took place. But eyewitnesses told police the youth was roaming in the area," Srivastava said.
“Police are waiting for autopsy reports. We didn't receive any complaint in the matter yet but are investigating the case from all angles. Right now, it is difficult to say the reason or how the incident happened," the ACP said.
