GHAZIABAD: An FIR was registered after a BJP candidate in Khoda alleged that a driver of former BSP MLA Amarpal Sharma and his accomplices hurled abuses, threatened her with dire consequences after a spat over pasting of posters.

Nirmala Devi, the BJP candidate for ward number 7, said Sharma’s driver and a few others were pasting posters of the opposition candidate when she objected to it. Sharma’s wife, Mohini, is contesting as an independent. “It was around 9.30am when I saw four persons pasting posters of Mohini Sharma on the wall of my house. I raised an objection and told them to remove the posters, especially when I am a candidate myself. But they abused me and said they were from Loni and could do anything they wanted,” Nirmala Devi alleged.

One of the accused, she alleged, even entered her compound. “I went inside to call my son, who chased them down the road. While the others fled in a car, one was caught and handed over to police. He was, however, released in the evening,” she said. The man who was caught claimed they were being led by the driver of former MLA Sharma, Manju Devi alleged.

Sharma, who was the BSP MLA from Sahibabad for five years from 2012, had contested the 2017 election on a SP ticket, but lost. Sharma denied the allegations levelled by Manju Devi. “The people of Khoda want my wife as the chairperson and she got a good response during her door-to-door campaign. Her supporters are now trying to malign our image,” he claimed.

Vivek Yadav, DCP (trans-Hindon), said Manju Dev had lodged a complaint. An FIR was registered against four unknown persons under sections 452 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of the IPC.
