Ghaziabad: The NHAI will complete a loop connecting NH9 with GT Road by next month. The NHAI is constructing an exit just before the Chipiyana rail overbridge at the Lal Kuan intersection, which has traffic from three major roads — Delhi-Meerut Expressway, NH9 and the GT Road — merging there, making it chaotic and congested throughout the day.
The first two phases of the project to link NH9 with Crossings Republik have been completed, officials said.
In April, NHAI merged the plinth and removed barricades to link Shaberi road with NH9 near ABES cut, providing nearly 1 lakh residents of the township direct access to the speedway and the Delhi Meerut Expressway.
A second loop, allowing vehicles from NH9 to take a right turn towards the township on the Shaberi road, was opened to the public earlier this week.
“The GT Road link is the third part of the Rs9.5crore. The NHAI will remove the barricades on NH9 and create a loop near the Chipiyana overbridge to link the speedway to the GT Road,” an NHAI official said.
This will allow commuters coming from Delhi to access the GT Road directly and travel up to Aligarh without having to take a U-turn ahead.
The GT Road stretch in Ghaziabad district is 14.9 km long and starts from Lal Kuan and ends at Gyani Border. It passes through one of the most congested stretches of the district, marred by frequent jams.
NHAI plans a Rs 550 crore revamp of the GT Road and will take up the work in phases. In the first phase, a 1.9km stretch between Lal Kuan and a rail overbridge on Dadri Road will be revamped. A 4-lane underpass has been planned in this section.
In the second phase, work on a 3.6km stretch from the ROB to the Thakurdwara flyover will be taken up. A 40m rail overbridge will come up on this stretch.
The longest 9.6km stretch, from the Thakurdwara flyover to the Gyani border via Meerut-trisection, will be taken up in the last phase. Two more lanes will be added to the 4-lane road.
