Ghaziabad: Builder Nikhil Chaudhary, who allegedly crashed his Innova into a parked Sedan at a divider near Vasundhara flyover on Sunday night, and his driver were arrested Tuesday for the murder of their co-passengers, the two constables who died in the accident.
The deceased, Om Sharma (41) of Delhi Police and Jagveer Singh (31) of Ghaziabad police, were part of the security detail of builder Nikhil Chaudhary, a resident of Vivek Vihar in Delhi.
Driver Manoj Sharma, also a Delhi resident, told police that Nikhil got drunk and insisted on taking the wheels despite being requested, including by the constables, to refrain from driving. Police said their investigation suggests Nikhil was speeding and lost control of the car.
Earlier on Monday, police booked Nikhil and Manoj under IPC Section 302 (murder) after the families of the constables alleged the builder and his driver crushed the cops intentionally and tried to present an accident case. Ghanshyam Singh, the complainant and father of Jagveer, said Nikhil and his driver received no injuries, which made him lodge a murder plaint against them.
A medical exam of Nikhil showed him under the influence of alcohol and cops suspect it is an accident so far. “Based on the compalint, we arrested Nikhil and his driver on Tuesday. During interrogation, Nikhil accepted he was driving the car after drinking. Manoj said he was sitting behind in the car. Nikhil took the key as he wanted to drive the car,” said DCP (trans-Hindon) Nimish Patil. “We are investigating more and will submit a chargesheet in court soon.”
Police granted Nikhil security detail after assailants shot dead his father, Surendra Pal Singh, at their Ghaziabad office in November 2017.
