GHAZIABAD: A 26-year-old
woman
was
booked
on Friday for allegedly throwing acid on her husband following a quarrel at home. Mohammed
Wakil
(28) was taken to
GTB Hospital
in Delhi and was discharged after treatment.
Wakil works in a biscuit manufacturing factory in Ghaziabad. The incident took place on December 26 in Wakil’s house in Hindon Vihar, where he lives with his wife Ayesha and three minor kids. Ayesha’s parents also live in the same locality, barely 300 metres away.
“The couple got into a bitter quarrel after Wakil returned home from work around 3pm on December 26. They often fight with each other over trivial matters. That day, Ayesha had called over her two brothers, Kameel and Rohit. They thrashed Wakil badly. They held him by the arms while Ayesha emptied a bottle of bathroom cleaning acid on him,” Wakil’s brother Ayesha said.
Wakil was discharged from hospital a day later, following which the family held a meeting with local elders.
They lodged a complaint against Ayesha and her two brothers at Sihani Gate police station late on Thursday night. The three persons have been booked under several sections of the IPC, including 326A (
acid throwing
) and 323 (assault).
Police said the extent of injuries on Wakil could be determined only after a proper medical examination.
“No one has been arrested so far. We began investigations into the incident on Friday. A preliminary probe suggests Wakil’s brother was also involved in the fight with Ayesha and her brothers. If they are found guilty of throwing acid, they could land in jail for 10 years,” deputy superintendent of police Atish Singh said.
