‘2-3% patients affected by dengue shock syndrome’

Ghaziabad: As the dengue tally in Ghaziabad touched 500 this year, doctors at the district hospital said dengue shock syndrome and haemorrhage were noted in only 2% to 3% of the total patients, and most of them were either elderly or had other complications. On Monday, fresh dengue cases were reported from Nehru Nagar, Sanjay Nagar, Kavi Nagar, Rajnagar, Nandgram, Pratap Vihar and Shalimar Garden. Of the 12 patients who tested positive for the viral infection was an eight-year-old, health officials said. Neighbouring Noida has logged 400 dengue cases so far.To avoid panic among patients and their kin, private hospitals in the two NCR districts have been asked to follow the protocols of blood transfusion. According to doctors, transfusion is to be done only in cases where the patient’s platelet count has dropped below 20,000.Dr Rajpal Singh of MMG Hospital in Ghaziabad said, “Currently, most patients are recovering within a week with medicines, adequate rest and a healthy diet. Only in 2-3% of patients shock syndrome has been detected.”The health department has sent samples to KGMU, Lucknow, for sero-survey and the report is awaited.

Daltonganj detects one dengue patient, stable

A 16-year-old boy in Daltonganj, India has tested positive for dengue in an Elisa test. The boy does not require hospitalization, but the village where he lives has been fogged as a precautionary measure. Private pathology labs in the area are also testing for dengue, but the civil surgeon is urging them to send positive cases to the MMCH Daltonganj for confirmatory Elisa testing. The state of Bihar in India has reported its highest one-day dengue tally with 215 cases, and a new strain of dengue has been detected in Noida, causing severe symptoms.

Chatra dist readies 10-bed ward for dengue patients

The district health department in Chatra, India is on high alert after two confirmed cases of dengue were reported, including a CRPF personnel. A 10-bedded isolation center with necessary equipment is now operational. The two patients have been discharged, and suspected samples are being sent for testing. The Chatra municipality areas have been divided into four sectors for dengue surveillance, and sahiyas will identify patients in rural areas. Patients with dengue symptoms are receiving proper care and regular testing.

13 new cases, dengue tally now at 464 in Gzb; 380 in GB Nagar

The number of dengue cases in GB Nagar has reached 380, prompting hospitals to reserve more beds for patients. Severe dengue symptoms include high-grade fever, headache, vomiting, and body pain, and if left untreated, patients can experience organ failure. Platelet transfusions are only given to patients with a platelet count below 20,000. In Ghaziabad, 13 new cases were reported, with patients ranging from one year old to 50 years old. Blood banks in Bengaluru are organizing donation camps to address the shortage of platelets caused by the rising dengue cases.
